Michelle Shaheen earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Texas at El Paso in 2016 and is currently working on a Master’s Degree in Horn Performance.
Michelle currently performs regularly with the UTEP Wind Symphony, Symphony Orchestra, and the Horn Choir. In her past years at the university, she has performed with these groups as well as the UTEP Symphony Band, Concert Band, Jazz 2, University Chorus, Concert Chorale, and the UTEP Marching Miner Regiment. She also studied piano performance as a minor in the studio of Dr. Dena K. Jones for a year of her undergraduate studies.
Throughout the years, she has had the opportunity to travel and perform at multiple clinics and conventions including Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, and the Midwest Clinic. At these events she has played alongside the UTEP Wind Symphony as well as the Horn Choir, who also demonstrated pedagogical ideas and tips during Richard Lambrecht’s horn clinics. This spring, Michelle will be traveling with the Wind Symphony to perform at the American Bandmasters Association Convention. In recent years, Michelle has also had the opportunity to perform as a substitute horn section member in both the Roswell Symphony Orchestra and the El Paso Symphony Orchestra.
Michelle is employed by UTEP as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and helps with multiple tasks throughout the music department. These include grading for theory and aural skills 3 and 4, teaching lessons and assisting with the horn studio, conducting the concert band, tutoring, and assisting with the large wind ensembles. Michelle was also appointed as the choir director at her home church, St. George Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church.
Michelle is an active member and founder of the Alpha Chi chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi Honorary Band Fraternity. They provide service to the collegiate band program as well as the community. In 2017, she was inducted into Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honor Society.
